Santa Fe High's musical theatre program is a vibrant, continually growing, and exciting program. Students take the Musical Theatre class and produce a major musical in May. All roles are cast from those enrolled in the class and everyone in the class participates onstage. It is excellent training in theatre and a valuable experience in teamwork and production.  Costumes are an important aspect of any production, but this year the class is producing "Aida" (Elton John/Tim Rice) and the Egyptian style and nature of the production require more extensive, professionally designed and constructed costume pieces.

The students at Gonzales Community School represent a talented group. The Art Department works to create endless creative projects that involve the children's imaginations. Recently, they decided they would like to have a print making press at the school in order to further educate (and inspire) the students in different art mediums. A print making press would open up a world of relief, intaglio, stencil, and planographic work. A print making press can be used for a variety of techniques including linoleum, block printing, collagraph printing, engraving, etching and monoprinting. This type of press would be a wonderful asset to our Art Department. The cost is about $1000. \

The fourth graders at Agua Fria are excited to be a part of the National Dance Institute of New Mexico! NDI-NM was founded with the knowledge in mind that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate children. The purpose of the NDI-NM program is to help children develop discipline, a standard of excellence, and a belief in themselves that will carry over into all aspects of their lives. Our 80 fourth grade students (including special needs students) will participate in a 31 week dance program with an NDI instructor and pianist that culminates in the NDI End of Year Program, this year focusing on Science! We do not have money in our activity fund to support this amazing program and would like to continue to offer this program at our school. Even though private donors pay for the bulk of the services we receive, we still need to come up with $2122.00 this school year.

The El Dorado Community School Academy Advanced Band is planning an overnight retreat to Hummingbird Music Camp in Jemez Springs in March, and we are hoping to raise funds so that all students may attend. At the retreat students will rehearse music in preparation for the State Concert Band Contest, as well as participate in team-buildilng activities and recreation. This is the first time that the El Dorado Band will be going to Hummingbird, and in addition to creating a memorable musical experience for children, it marks a key step in building a strong and successful program for years to come.

We are requesting $500 towards the trip which will  include transportation, fees/meals, and the hiring of several sectional coaches for each of the instruments in the band.

Teaching students who are learning English as a second language can be very challenging at times! One strategy that I have found very effective is the; Listen And Sketch in which I read a short story out loud to the students, I instruct my students to sketch as they listen to the story.

Students at Santa Fe High School are offered two levels of Dance Elective courses and in each level study many forms of dance from Tribal African Dance to Hip Hop to Tap Dance. In order to fully experience and learn about tap, appropriate tap shoes are necessary to hear and feel the rhythms that are unique to this style.

“The trumpet rings out its clear, shimmering call. The guitarron pulses its steady, throaty beat. Voices – vibrato lilting,
joy apparent – sing a melody that has been sung for centuries.”

We are requesting funding and support for transportation and instrument maintenance.
