It Takes a Community to Change Our Schools

Special Education

The Santa Fe Public Schools need help providing training and access to innovative teaching methods designed to help their special needs students achieve more. Students with mobility issues and in wheelchairs need accessible classrooms and playgrounds. Other students have difficulty understanding spoken and written language.

The Adaptive Ski Program has been successfully operating at Capital High School for several years. It has been funded through several means, including Santa Fe Public Schools, Partners in Education and CHS’ own fund-raising efforts, “The Barkery”. Due to a shortage of funds, the program was in danger of being discontinued for School Year 2010-11. Fortunately, Dollars for Schools found a donor(s), and we had a highly successful Ski Program for School Year 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Progress: 100% Goal: $1,000
Jane Lawton

The purpose of the KIVA and Life Skills classes is for students and young adults to make the transition from school to the community. The way the students view the community and their personal challenges is often very different. Working with a digital camera and computers, I would like to document from their point of view, how they see and interact in the community.
