Programs: Some of our favorite things… Health & Wellness A child's physical and mental health, emotional well-being, and positive development are key to academic success. 14% of Santa Fe kindergarten students are obese. 21% of third graders are obese. New Mexico has youth suicide rates that are twice the national average. Student Wellness Action Teams (SWAT) work to educate students at our middle and high schools. These projects promote the health and wellness of ALL students to advance their readiness to learn, make good choices and ensure a healthy lifestyle. I like to teach in a way that makes the students live the educational moments and experience them so that they don't always realize that they are learning! Loving to teach and learn myself, it makes it my pleasure to show them what I know, and how to find out about new and interesting subjects. My classroom is a place where a child can go for extra support in school work, a much needed hug and smile, or where they can come to learn a subject straight from me. This is my twelfth year of teaching, and I jump out of bed every morning hoping I get to experience an "AHA!" moment with a student! I truly love what I do, and hope to be able to do it until I'm old and gray(er!).
