The academic segment provides a guaranteed and viable academic curriculum to high school students in grades 9 – 12. The courseware is aligned to state and national standards and helps students recover and accrue credits for graduation and prepare for state, end-of-course, and key standardized tests. The Academy at Larragoite offers an AVID class (a college preparatory program) and AVID strategies (Cornell note-taking, organization, and WICR) are implemented in every course. This year, the Academy at Larragoite is also offering a work experience elective to students to gain employment skills at school, which in turn will benefit the business community. Practical work experience is gained by the student through part-time employment at local businesses. Currently, Academy at Larragoite students are working at the following businesses: Albertsons, Dillards, Genoveva Chavez Community Center, Panda Express, Santa Fe Sports & Images, and the SF Boys & Girls Club. Furthermore, the Academy at Larragoite has implemented a healthful living standard by offering the required graduation course of physical education and health education. The intent of offering these courses within the school is to establish competency goals and objectives for the teaching and learning of behaviors that contribute to a healthful lifestyle and improved quality of life for all students. This year, the Academy at Larragoite is in partnership with the Santa Fe Community College to allow students to take dual credit courses. The dual credit program enriches students’ lives by giving high school students the educational opportunity to attain a college degree and shorten the amount of time needed to attain it.
