Programs at Cesar Chavez Elementary School « Back to Schools About Cesar Chavez Elementary School The community of learners at César Chávez Community School will nurture and: Develop academic, work, and life skills; Honor individuals and how they learn and how they interact; Provide dynamic opportunities for exploration; Investigate issues that are engaging and relevant to real-life situations; and Encourage continuous reflection and improvement. Our efforts will plant the seeds for the growth of future leader and productive citizens. We have a vision in honor of the energetic and resilient leader, César Chávez. César Chávez Elementary School is a community of lifelong learners who are confident and skillful in dealing with life situations and who assume responsibility for their learning and behavior Academically, we have implemented “Thinking Maps” schoolwide for the last three years. We also have implemented the utilization of GLAD strategies school-wide. In Math, we are utilizing the Everyday Math curriculum. We also have 98 students that are provided reading interventions in our Helping One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) program. This program consists of 104 volunteers. Reading interventions were provided for grades 2–5. In one fourth grade class, we piloted a health program. In two of our fifth grade classes, the Just Be It (JBI) curriculum was implemented. For two years we have piloted a Dual Language program in Kindergarten and First grade.
