Teacher: Santa Fe Public Schools in partnership with Santa Fe Community Foundation & Dollars4SchoolsGrades Affected: K-3Students Affected: 165 Donate Now Goal:$20,000.00 Raised:$2,050.00 Help us provide alternative summer program options for up to 165 students and families in Santa Fe affected by sudden loss of K-3 Plus summer program. In early May this year, the state budget cut for K-3 Plus program resulted in hundreds of students in kindergarten through third grade at four schools in Santa Fe – E.J Martinez, Nava, Salazar and Tesuque – suddenly losing their summer school program and learning opportunities. These families have already registered for the program, and this abrupt elimination of the summer programs at the four sites not only means loss of extra learning opportunities and widening of achievement gap for many low-income students but has painful and often economic consequences for parents and families without child care options. In response to this critical and urgent need, the Santa Fe Community Foundation has partnered with the Santa Fe Public Schools to help fund an alternative summer school program option at the Salazar Elementary School that can serve up to 165 students from June 5 to June 30th with priorities given to students from the four schools where K-3 Plus program closed. Funding from the Foundation and community will help support cost of educators and administrative staff while SFPS will contribute custodian time, food service for breakfast and lunch, and any additional cost for materials and supplies. SFPS is able to provide this cost-efficient, alternative program option due to Salazar already housing two other existing summer programs – City of Santa Fe Recreation program and 21st Century summer program – which helps to reduce the overhead costs. Multiple programs at the site also bring additional benefits of on-site options for extended after care and programs for older siblings for the families. The Santa Fe Community Foundation will match dollar-for-dollar for the first $20,000 contributed from the community to support this critical alternative summer school program at the Salazar Elementary School meeting the total budget of $40,000. Any additional funds raised will be set aside to support other potential related costs (e.g., transportation) and future summer program needs in the Santa Fe Community. Donations can be made using credit card here on the Dollars4Schools site or by sending a check to Santa Fe Community Foundation, 501 Halona Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505.Please make sure to note: Summer Program Fund
